Entrepreneurship can be messy…
As entrepreneurs, we don’t get a road map which tells us exactly what to do, when to do it, and in what order. Yes, we might have a general direction, but the details tend to be a bit messy. One way to untangle this mess is to seek help.
In this sense, “investing in yourself” could mean hiring a coach, investing in programs or services which help you get your goals done, or setting aside a certain amount of time or money to do research through books or online courses. All of these things will help you figure out what you need to do in order to succeed with your online business.
Ever since I started my own online business (now businesses), I’ve had a lot of people approach me with questions about “how I do it.” It could be a colleague, a reader, or people I just meet in passing. They tell me, for example, about how they’ve been struggling for 6 months to write an ebook but just can’t quite figure it out.
It baffles me that people don’t take the time or money to figure these things out. Often times, it isn’t even that much money to invest. You can buy a book for $20 which will answer at least some of the issues you’ve been struggling with and at least allow you to keep moving forward till you reach the next hurdle.
We Spend 4 Years On College…
Maybe people think it is a bad use of their time or money to buy books, or sign up for an online course. But I think that this is the most important thing for your online business.
In a traditional career, we are usually expected to have a college degree which we spent 4 years (and probably a LOT of money!) to get. Why should this be any different for online businesses?
I’m not saying that you should spend 4 years doing research before starting your online business. But why aren’t we investing just a fraction of that into becoming better business owners and entrepreneurs?
Learning Should Be Part of Your Business Plan
I think that this is VERY important to your business success. Invest in yourself. Invest in your learning, in your infrastructure, in your team.
This learning is one of the most crucial things you can do to drive your business forward. You’ve just got to believe in yourself enough to make that step – to take that course, hire that coach, buy those books, hire that team…
If you don’t believe in yourself and aren’t willing to invest in yourself, then who else is going to?
